Gingival Hyperplasia during Pregnancy: Frequency and Clinical Presentation in a Tertiary Level Hospital in Yaoundé-Cameroon

Gingival hyperplasia or gingival overgrowth, which is a common trait of disease, characterized by an increase in the size gingiva. according to past reports has numerous etiological factors one pregnancy due increased hormone levels. Although does not directly cause hyperplasia, it may catalyze local factors. Objectives: To determine frequency and clinical aspects during pregnancy. Methodology: We conducted cross sectional descriptive study from November 2021 June 2022 at Yaoundé Gyneco-Obstetrics Pediatrics Hospital. Data were collected using pretested questionnaire assessments done dental consultation kits. analyzed with International Business Machine Statistical Package for Social Sciences (IBM SPSS) version 21.0 software. Results: recruited 231 eligible participants our study. Of 231, 101 (43.7%) had hyperplasia. Most population between 20 - 40 years old was most commonly found 3rd trimester (60.7%). reported that 31.3% plaque score 2 only 7.8% consulted dentist also observed 93.3% manifested mild/moderate form disease while 6.9% severe form. Our showed 72.3% 27.3% localized generalized respectively. Conclusion: concluded pathology pregnant women. It third trimester. presents more as form, degree severity mostly moderate.
